stenden university qatar performs well at model un Stenden University Qatar Performs Well at Model UNDuring the Bahrain Universities Model United Nations (BUMUN) held in Manama from 26-28 November students from Stenden University Qatar (SUQ) debated topics such as extremism, violence against women, and climate change. Universities from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and the UAE were all well represented, with a student from Stenden University Qatar receiving the Best Delegate award.

The 10th annual event was held at the Sheraton hotel under the patronage of the Bahraini Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairperson Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Shaikh Nasser praised BUMUN saying that “The distinctive interaction of youth and their determination to put forward their proposals and views freely with a sense of high responsibility in diagnosing challenges and brainstorming solutions has achieved the success of BUMUN”.

Participants also had the opportunity to hear guest speakers such as Mr. Lin Zheming from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and Shaikha Deena bintRashed Al Khalifa, the Acting Director of Public & Foreign Relations, Supreme Council for Women.

Members of Stenden University Qatar’s team were: Vignesh Venkataraman, Shivi Mishra, Siddharth Bhavnani, Maysaa Al-Mulla, Nada Mohamed ElGarhy and coach Ian McKay. Team members represented Iraq and North Korea, while their committees were the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

Shaikh Nasser presented the team with a participation award which was received by Maysaa Al-Mulla and Shivi Mishra, while VigneshVenkataraman received the Diplomacy Award for Best Delegate for his participation in ECOSOC.
