Dubai, UAE: Dubai International Academic City’s annual Career Fair 2015 took place on March 5th, 2015, bringing together students, graduates and leading recruiters from public and private sectors around the UAE. Aimed at graduate and post-graduate students from 24 Academic Institutions from Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) and Dubai Knowledge Village (DKV), the fair provided a forum for students to network with potential employers and discuss a wide variety of internships and full-time recruitment opportunities.
‘Build your Resume’, ‘Plan for Life after College’, ‘Meet and Talk to Representatives from Top Companies’ were some of the objectives of this year’s annual career fair organised by Dubai International Academic City’s student body representatives, DIAC Student Hub.
Reports show that students who attend career fairs as early as their freshmen or sophomore year develop confidence in their ability to interact with employers and communicate their accomplishments. Students and alumni of Murdoch University Dubai had the opportunity to engage with corporates and learn about specific industries and new careers. Prior to attending the career fair, Emmanuel Santiago, a second year B.Com Management student was unsure of her available choices. She later said, “I gained confidence in talking to employers and a better understanding of the internships and employment opportunities that are available in the market.”
Approaching employers at a career fair can be daunting for many, and most students often fail to leave their best impression. Considering these first time hurdles, DIAC, in association with Monster Gulf organised a career workshop on ‘CV Writing and Interview Tips’ at the Career Fair.
Over 60 different companies were represented at the fair, actively recruiting interns and full-time employees. Some of the prominent organisations included Michael Page, Bayt.com, Monster.com, Dulsco, Aldelia and Internsme; Real estate giants TECOM; Finance companies such as Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Zurich Insurance and Dunia.
“The annual DIAC Career Fair continues to be a great initiative for students to network, make contacts and secure future employment opportunities” said Livia Fama, Teaching and Learning Coordinator at Murdoch University Dubai.
Murdoch University has been given a five star graduate employment rating by students in the popular Good Universities Guide 2015. The annual publication provides an independent summary of Australian institution’s performance to help students make more informed choices. The ranks are based on surveys and government data. Murdoch was also rated highly for graduate starting salary meaning the University is a good prospect for future students looking to make value for money investments in their education.
